Learning to farm with... Episode 3

Learning to farm with...

AD carries are notorious for needing farm more than nearly any other role in the game. They end up in a lane with another player, meaning they level slower than the other solo lane roles and even the jungler, but they are well protected to get plenty of farm so they can hit their item power spikes. Some AD carries are nearly fully item dependant, as their kits simply provide them huge steroids to boost the power of their items, such as Vayne's Silver Bolts and ultimate. Corki however DOES scale well with levels, and always turns up competitively due to his nearly unrivalled mid-game power-spike, but he tends to fall off in damage late game. This is because he has no conventional steroids, but is does a lot of ability damage through his rockets and Q, phosphorous bomb. However, his ability reliance also makes him amazingly easy to farm on, but not quite as easy as Sivir, who just hits W and last hits EVERY minion in the wave. This makes him great for learning how to clear waves with ability combos, while still building AD to make last hitting a bit easier than on a full AP carry.

Why Corki?

As mentioned earlier, Corki is a really ability focused AD carry. Once you hit level six you can usually clear the caster minions with a single phosphorous bomb and rocket, assuming you have a few items under you belt. After that hit the melee minions with a rocket and clean them up with your auto-attacks. This is your wave-clear combo. The concept of a wave clear combo is really common amongst mid laners, and is a vital skill to learn for any role that is very farm dependant, and the combos in question vary from champion to champion. These are important to maximise the CS you get while pushing the lane hard. However, you will need to learn when to push and when not to, to prevent jungler ganks and overextending and dying to a stronger lane.

What makes this easier?

Corki is a great lane bully, so as long as you manage your mana properly you shouldn't have any issues laning against the opposing ADC. Due to him building AD, last hitting will get easier as the game progresses, meaning you will have to focus on it less and less, and as ADCs go he is very safe and pretty easy to play despite his shorter range. This means more of your time can be focused on making sure he gets all the farm he needs without fear of being completely shut down in lane, and in the worst case scenario he can even farm with his ultimate.

Summary

Corki is a great middle ground between the more traditional single target ADCs such as Vayne and Midlaners that are combo reliant to get farm. This makes him a great stepping stone before people start playing Midlaners with no AD and having a really hard time last hitting with them early game, and is also a fantastic champion to begin learning ADC with, and a constantly reliable pick.
